EL PESO DE LA FORMA: EL DISEÑO GRÁFICO DE CARLOS CRUZ-DIEZ

DATE: 15 OCTOBER 2022 - 18 FEBRUARY 2023

VENUE: SALA MENDOZA, CARACAS

Displayed at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid in 2021, El Peso de la Forma travels to Caracas, Venezuela. Organized by the Archivo Fotografía Urbana and the Cruz-Diez Foundation, the exhibition offers a survey of Cruz-Diez's graphic creativity, grouping his works in three formats: editorial design, posters, and exhibition catalogs. The curatorship was in charge of researcher Ariel Jiménez.

This exhibition covers a facet that is rarely disclosed, "from his childhood drawings, his early taste for comics or image reproduction, to adulthood, when the experience acquired during his years in the printing industry provided support for the research that led him to develop his plastic proposal on color, the center and axis of his work," says Adriana Cruz Delgado, president of the Cruz-Diez Foundation.

If anything characterizes his production during this long period, both in design and in his plastic work, it is precisely a reflection -at times obsessive- on what we could call the weight of form. A weight that is simultaneously semantic and structural, positive and negative, liberating and oppressive.
