CHROMOSATURATION, PARIS 1965/2013

DATE: 13 DECEMBER 2021 - 14 JANUARY 2022

VENUE: FRANCE PAVILION, EXPO 2020 DUBAI, UAE

Cruz-Diez was chosen by France for Expo 2020 Dubai, to illustrate the «Light/Enlightenment» theme, the main axis behind France’s presence there, at the heart of the France Pavilion.

On the Pavilion’s last floor and throughout the exhibition’s entire duration, the visitor can admire his Physichromies, paintings made of alternating aluminum blades that change of color and light according to the visitor’s lateral movement, changing their point of view. In the same rooms, an Induction Chromatique wallpaper will amaze the visitor revealing, on a large surface of vertical colored bands, making new colors appear, physically absent but recreated by our own retina and by the colors interference.

In the temporary exhibition area, active viewers will be plunged into a Chromosaturation, an artificial environment where three hyper-saturated light sources of red, green and blue located in three distinct chambers merge their hues in an open space, thus restoring the whole spectrum and offering our sensitive bodies and unbelieving eyes a journey inside a rainbow.

To me, color is autonomous, fleeting, in perpetual motion. Color is like life: a permanent present.
