La Cromoestructura Radial - Homenaje al Sol de Carlos Cruz-Diez.

Boulton, Alfredo

Caracas: Ediciones Macanao, 1989, 80 p.

Carlos Cruz-Diez's monumental work, Cromoestructura Radial - Homenaje al Sol (1982/1987) is a  radial structure with an 80-meter diameter composed of 32 steel elements anchored to the ground. Located at the Las Trinitarias roundabout in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, it pays tribute to the sun, reflecting its importance as a source of light, energy, and life.

In this book, Venezuelan art critic, historian, and curator Alfredo Boulton offers a thorough analysis of this work, exploring Cruz-Diez's process, philosophy, and technical aspects. The author discusses the artistic and symbolic significance of the piece and provides insights into the artist's innovative approach to color and space.

(…) splendid structures of exalted beauty that, in their apparent geometric immobility, resemble a gigantic fan that moves its rods, curves, tilts, and returns to the impeccable balance of the cosmic level. Optical prestidigitation that the author had previously indicated by invoking the colors and forms of his Physichromies with constant movement, through which the walker becomes ensnared in the dialogue of perspective and art, thus becoming a part of the structure and the work, instantly turning into a human magnet that integrates into it, into its morphology, its breathing, and its nerve.
