The Other Trans-Atlantic explores the development and impact of Kinetic Art and Op Art in Eastern Europe and Latin America during the mid-20th century. The book reveals how artists from these regions, despite being geographically and politically distant, pursued similar artistic innovations involving movement and optical effects.

It examines how these artistic movements emerged independently while sharing significant similarities, shaped by the cultural, political, and technological contexts of their time.

The book  includes detailed studies of Cruz-Diez, along with other key artists such as Victor Vasarely and Jesús Rafael Soto, alongside their Eastern European counterparts.

Carlos Cruz-Diez calls his works "support for events," which viewers must initiate themselves, and it is in this opening up that kinetic art represents a form of artistic experiment with wide-ranging connotations of social and political utopia.
