CHROMOSATURATION POUR UNE ALLÉE PUBLIQUE
DATE: 13 JULY 2023 - 17 SEPTEMBER 2023
VENUE: VASARELY FOUNDATION, AIX-EN-PROVENCE, FRANCE
Almost 10 years after its first display, Chromosaturation pour une allée publique (Paris, 1965/2012) will be exhibited again on the Vasarely Foundation forecourt, honoring the centenary of the artist's birth.
As an introduction for the solo show RGB, the Colors of the century, this event underlines the strong links between the concepts set out by Vasarely in The Yellow Manifesto, published in 1955 and RGB. Conceived by Cruz-Diez in 2014, the compact exhibition RGB, the Colors of the Century will be touring worldwide on the occasion of the centenary of the artist, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou and the Musée national d’art moderne.
'Le Mouvement' and The Yellow Manifesto convinced Cruz-Diez that his work would only find the conditions for its development in Paris. He moved there permanently in 1960. (...) His research on color, of a scientific rigor, logically led him to value the purely luminous effects and, consequently, to engage in a kind of dematerialization of his art. The work of art thus tends to be less a physical object delivered to the contemplation than an apparatus to generate a situation that the public experiments. Cruz-Diez's art, in this sense, does not propose things but rather events.
