We are thrilled to announce the inauguration of Carlos Cruz-Diez’s first monumental artwork in China. Created in 2016, Chromostructure is set to illuminate the city of Shanghai in November 2023, during the artist’s centenary celebration.
The Chromostructure will be integrated to the balustrade of the Rainbow Bridge, a distinctive landscape structure allowing visitors to enjoy the city skyline as they ascend step by step and revealing the interaction between colors and the spatial environment.
The work consists of two sets of elements, each composed of five colors: green, blue, red, orange and white. The two components are arranged alternately, and aluminum plates of different colors combined to achieve the dynamic visual effect of color.
This achievement has been made possible through years of commitment and the collaborative efforts of Ecadi, Art ZRL and the Atelier Cruz-Diez.
My father always maintained that art is a universal system of communication and, as such, knows no boundaries. For him, art has the power to transmit a direct and new message to the human spirit; and this is why he conceived his works as both elements of rupture and harmony, as an alliance between the search for a novel plastic language and technological innovation, between the artist and the spectator who becomes an actor in the work, between color and light.
