PARIS + BY ART BASEL
DATE: 13 OCTOBER 2022 - 3 NOVEMBER 2022
VENUE: TUILERIES GARDEN & GRAND PALAIS EPHEMERE, PARIS
For the first edition of the Paris+ by Art Basel art fair, Galleria Continua will present a monumental artwork by Cruz-Diez at the heart of the Tuileries garden.
The work presented in the Sites section of the fair, is a column with a triangular base and a height of 8 meters. Each of the three sides of the work carries a different Chromatic Induction harmony. By day, the color lines produce different ranges of color, changing with the light and the distance from the viewer. At nightfall, a black frame is projected on the column and moves up and down on each side of the work. This movement generates new additive colors as well as an undulatory movement that seems to take volume thanks to the light.
Designed in 2018, the Colonne Chromointerférente is a unique project. Visible from afar, the work becomes a landmark for passersby, offering a constantly-evolving spectacle of color, both day and night. The tower, itself an event in public space, is a dynamic, luminous, and moving point of reference that reflects what the artist termed the “ambiguous, continuous, ephemeral nature of life.”
In his special way, the Maestro offers a “wonderful reality” in which vivid color creates a manifestation that is as magical as it is dreamlike. The work consequently acquires a meaning, is endowed with symbolism and adopted by anyone who looks at it.
